Holi: A Festival That Makes Lives Colourful


     Holi is the festival of colors and love that is celebrated in Phalgum Purnima that always pops up in end of February or early March. Holi is the festival that celebrates the good and bad of anything. People start sending holi sms days before the festival. The festival of colors also rebuilds the relationships of those. About this day everyone wishes one another 'Happy Holi'. The celebration of Holi starts in the eve of Holi once the people celebrates with the bonfire. There are many such legends and stories associated with the celebrations. People celebrate the festival by sending holi messages, rubbing 'Gulal' and 'Abeer' on each other's face and wishing them 'Bura na Maano Holi Hai'. Holi also gives the opportunity to bless and love near and dear ones by offering them Holi gifts.

The Holi festival is well known with the different names in different states that follows different traditions. The spirit of celebration of the festival and sending holi wishes cause it to be special and unique in all with the country plus all around the globe.

Preparations for Holi

Whole country wears a festive look during the festival, market are in buzz during Holi festival. There are numerous Holi hues with gulals and abeers on the roadside at the time before festival. Pichkaris would be the modern design that is used to drench the person within the town. The womenfolk at home prepares the special dishes which are generally prepared during the time of Holi like gujiyas, mathari and papri for your loved ones members and relatives. At certain areas people also prepares papads and poker chips at this time.

Holika Dahan:

Around the eve of Holi, which is sometimes called as the Choti Holi or Small Holi there's a huge bonfire celebrations and the event is called the Holika Dahan. The tradition is followed in all areas. To offer the prayers and greatfulness to Agni, god of fire the gram and harvest are also offered using the humility.

Play with Colors:

At the time of Holi you will find lot of excitement which are seen at the time of the festival. Shops and offices are closed during the day and subsequently day also. Bright colors like gulal and abeer are filled in the environment and people also pouring color water on one another. Applying colors and dancing on dholak are the special delight of this day.

Consuming Bhang during Holi:

There is also a tradition of consuming Bhang [out] during Holi which is greatly intoxicating in nature and in addition it enhances the spirit of Holi. However, taking Bhang excessively can spoil the thrill of Holi. Caution should be taken while consuming bhang.

In the evenings the people meet relatives and friends and exchanges gifts and festive greetings with one another. It's believed that Holi is the only festival that encourages the brotherhood in the society. Every community and religion celebrates the festival as colorful and joyous one.
